Poem: The Cost of Liberty
Liberty is exclaimed to all the world, her birth is proclaimed all over. Countless men have all but fought for, her to stand for freedom…
Liberty is exclaimed to all the world,
her birth is proclaimed all over.
Countless men have all but fought for,
her to stand for freedom and equality.
As she stands in the Harbor,
her gown is drenched with crimson.
War cries, battle shells, and the smell
of gunpowder cushion her feet.
Countries following, nations surrendering,
the purity of an individual’s heart:
this is the cost of Liberty.
Men falling, fields of crosses and the
will to go on are embraced in Her arms.
Her gown becomes engulfed moment
by moment in innocent blood.
She steps forward,
never looking behind.
Her vision set,
her focus untouched.
Liberty has a mission,
it will be finished.
Country after country,
life after life:
this is the cost of Liberty.
