Understanding Your Giants
Recently I was dealt a heavy hand personally and professionally. My initial reaction was unbelief, however I did not settle for complacency and inaction. Instead, I was challenged to combat it head on. Sure, there were some uncomfortable conversations that needed to be had. I made sure that they happened. However, the lessons that I was being called to learn from these scenarios was priceless, that is if I took the time to stop and learn from them.
We all know the David and Goliath story found in the Bible. I related to David very much in his journey as I was growing up. My roots are in small town countryside, creativity, and a raw relationships were rooted in the Lord.
When I had read through this story with Goliath I had always powered through, not realizing or understanding the gravity, context, or implications of many of the decisions he had to made. It was time to take a look again and see what it was actually saying.
“One stone at a time” is what really jumped off the pages as I found myself stewing over the passages again. He didn’t fire off his entire round of rocks that he had on him. No he couldn’t do that. He had to launch stone one at a time. WOW. It jumped off the pages.
Don’t let the size of the issues in front of you overtake and cripple you. Put one step in front of the other. Break down the struggle into bite sized pieces. This is where the fun starts. Partner with Him in each of those individual steps. Learn to trust Him, to hear His voice and prepare yourself to be rocked.
For you see, He has never abandoned you.
He is faithful.
He is loving.
He is patient.
And what I am learning in this season, is it all starts with one step. You MUST understand your giants. The giants only have authority of you if you give it to them. Move forward and keep your eyes on Him. Trust me, it’s worth it.
